James Carroll Dean
Born in Jones County, Texas in 1933 to Buck and Osie May Dean. The only son in a family of four children passed away January 26, 2016 in Lubbock, Texas after an extended illness. Carroll married Doris Helen Watson on October 15, 1983.
Carroll spent his younger years in Jones County, Texas and moved to Lea County, New Mexico in his mid-teens where the family farmed north of Lovington. Prior to joining the Air Force in 1951, Carroll became a pilot and a crop duster.
Carroll was preceded in death by his mother and father and sister, Polly Cromeens. He is survived by Doris, his wife of 32 years, son James Allen Dean of Hobbs, Terry Dean of Las Cruces, Scott Dean of Salt Lake City, Utah, Thyla Grant of Mt. Bellview, Texas, Danny Watson of Tatum, and Stanley Watson of Carlsbad. He is also survived by two sisters Maxie Hardy of Anson, Texas and Linda Clayton of Lovington, 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Carroll exhibited his commitment to his community and country by serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, as mayor to his community of Tatum, and serving his community as a lineman for Lea County Electric for 25 years.
Carrol and Doris moved from Tatum to Hobbs in 2001 and are members of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.
