James Lee Daugherty was born February 20, 1926, in Stillwater, OK, to Art and Viola Daugherty. He had no full siblings, as his mother died when he was 3 years old. He was mostly raised by aunts and uncles.
Jim graduated from Stillwater High School in 1944. He joined the Navy the next day. After being discharged in 1946. He entered Oklahoma State University on the G.I. Bill.
In 1947, he married Pauline. They were inseparable until her passing in 2005.
Jim graduated from OSU in 1951 with a Bachelor and Master's in education. He taught school in Oklahoma from 1951-1955.
He was baptized in First Christian Church of Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1953.
Jim joined Hobbs Schools in 1955. He taught Jr. high school social studies, high school P.E., high school tennis coach, and was a junior high assistant principal at Houston Jr. High, and principal at Highland Jr. High.
He was a long-time member of First Christian Church in Hobbs.
