James Donald Caviness died June 20, 2012, in Hobbs, NM. He was born October 6, 1942, in Raton, NM, to James Olen and Opal Belle Thompson Caviness. Cremation will take place. A cremain burial will take place at a later date in Fairmont Cemetery in Raton, NM.
After graduating from high school in Raton, NM, Don attended New Mexico State University receiving degrees in: Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Science, and a Master of Science Degree.
He worked as Director of Public Relations for Wichita Bank and for Cooperatives in
Wichita Kansas. Also he worked for a bank that finances Agricultural Cooperatives in Kansas, Oklahoma, Colorado and New Mexico.
When asked by the governor, he moved to Santa Fe and worked in the State of NM Dept. of Corrections. In 1999 he moved to Hobbs and worked in the State of NM Dept. as Contract Monitor.
After retiring he remained living in Hobbs until his death.
He was involved in the Antique Car Club, was active in the Democratic Party and served on the City of Hobbs Planning Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents Olen Caviness and Opal Thompson Caviness
He is survived by his close friends Jim and Ann Enix, Eric Scandrett, Carolyn and Charles Landrum, Ron and Peggy Hammer and numerous cousins and friends.
