Jacob Cutright

A funeral service for J.G. Jiggs Cutright of Hobbs will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Taylor Street Church of Christ. Mike Kennedy, minister, will officiate. Burial will take place after services at Prairie Haven Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. 5 p.m. Thursday, January 28, 201, at Chapel of Hope and 8 a. m. 7 p.m. Friday with the family in attendance from 5 7 p.m. and visitation will resume 8 a.m. noon on Saturday.

Cutright, 86, died January 26, 2010, at his home in Hobbs. He was born December 25, 1923, at Elk City, Oklahoma. He married Christeen Chris Cowan on August 4, 1945, in Elk City, Oklahoma.

Jiggs was born to Harry and Ruth Cutright in 1923. He was one of six children. He graduated from Meritt High School in 1943 in Oklahoma. He volunteered for military duty during WWII where he served in the European theater 3rd Army Division and was in the Battle of the Budge under General Patton and was in the motor section of the 87th Infantry Division, 345 Regiment Company G. He received an honorable discharge when the war ended in 1945. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion and Moose Lodge. He was a member of the honor guard that performed at veteran military funerals. After the war, he went to work in Guyman, Oklahoma, for Cabot Carbon Co. and was later transferred to Hobbs. He also worked in other places. He established his own business, Lea Enterprise oilfield engine repair. He liked to travel with the Oilpatch Sams Travel Club, liked water skiing, camping, playing pool and cards. He was an active member of the Taylor Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife Chris Cutright of Hobbs son Danny Cutright of Hobbs daughter Diane Daniel of Hobbs foster daughter Linda Wright and husband Scotty of Hobbs two sisters, Hazel Sherman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Orlene Williams of Keller, Texas one brother Doy Cutright of Wenatchee, Washington grandsons Cory Cutright of Hobbs and Jamie Barton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma two granddaughters, Christy Hammer and husband Mike of Midland, Texas, and Elizabeth McGill and husband Brandon of El Paso, Texas foster granddaughter Kayla Richardson and husband Shannon of Hobbs and ten greatgrandchildren.

Jiggs was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one foster grandson.

Military honors will be performed by the Lea County Marine Corps League.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of choice.
