Jackson PaPa Lynn Cook, age 93, was born on August 23, 1917, in West Brockton, AL, to Erma Yeager Cook and Harvey Richard Cook. Lynn is the 4th of seven children. He had four sisters and two brothers. Lynn was predeceased by his wife, Margaret G. Cook and only son, Monte Lynn Cook his parents, Erma and Harvey Cook three sisters, Evelyn Cook Tinker, Virginia Cook Nickson, Barbara Jean Cook Weaver, and two brothers, infant Richard Cook and John Deason Cook.
Lynn is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Cook Elliott of Lovington NM two grandchildren, Tammi Cook Collins and husband, Phil, of the home, and Jeremy Cook and wife Charla of Hobbs four greatgrandchildren, Todd, Nathan and Shawn Collins of the home and Joanna Cook of Hobbs two stepchildren, Carroll Leatherwood and husband Dusty of Clovis, NM, and Charlie Barnes of Calahan, CO four stepgrandchildren, Chris Lewis and wife Tracy of Clovis, NM, Kim Jackson and husband Darren of Safford, AZ, Heather Christenson and husband, Jason of Phoenix, AZ, and Caleb Barnes of San Antonio, TX and four more greatgrandchildren also survive him.
Lynn moved to New Mexico from Alabama after graduating high school in 1935. He worked as a farm hand and worked in the oilfield during the boom of the l930s. In 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country during WWII in Italy as a mechanic, specializing on Army tanks until 1945.
Lynn was an active Lea County Shriner for many years. He was also active in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Masons for many years.
Lynn loved working He retired several times. He worked for City Pipe Supply, Banta Oilfield Service and TJ C Oilfield Service until his last retirement at the age of 75. Lynn was a builder. He built two homes that he, his wife Margaret and all the grandchildren enjoyed and he built loads of furniture of every type. He was a master at welding and loved metal working. He enjoyed fishing with his son and watching his greatgrandsons play baseball.
Mr. Lynn was always perfectly healthy and even when Alzheimers had taken over his mind, he still wanted to go to work every day. After living a long, good life, Lynn will be greatly missed
Services for Jackson Lynn Cook will be held at Temple Baptist Church, Thursday,
May 26 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 25 from 11 a.m. 6:30 p.m. with the family in attendance to greet friends from 4 6 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lea County Shriners.
