Funeral service for Jack B. Callaway of Hobbs will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Pastor LaVoid Ford will officiate. Burial will follow after services at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 8 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Chapel of Hope.
Callaway, 82, died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Good Samaritan Village in Hobbs. He was born January 21, 1927, in Walters, Oklahoma. He married Betty Lorance Callaway on May 15, 1948, in Henrietta, Oklahoma.
Jack served in the U. S. Navy from 1942-1944 during the Manilla era. He worked in the Oklahoma oilfields before moving to Hobbs, in 1959. Jack began carpentry work in 1959, built homes and managed Callaway Lumber from 1963 until his retirement. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Jack loved people and never met a stranger. His greatest love in life was his family, expecially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his wife Betty of the home; son Jimmy Virg Callaway of Hobbs; daughter Jacki Cobbs and husband James of Hobbs; two brothers, V. J. Callaway of Hobbs and Donald Callaway and his wife Anne of Amarillo, Texas; sister Betty Jean Shorter and husband Roy of Duncan, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Jack Callaway, James W. Callaway, Jason Scott and his wife DeAnn of Hobbs and Kristen Oswald and husband Phillip of Birmigham, Alabama; eight great-great-grandchildren, Owen Jay Callaway, Penelope Jane Callaway, Cody Scott, Austin Scott, Chloe Scott, all of Hobbs and Spencer Oswald, Nathan Oswald and Mandy Oswald, all of Birmingham, Alabama.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Virgil and Lois Callaway and one brother Ralph Callaway.
