Iva Irene Smith was born in Dexter, NM September 28, 1922 to the late Jim & Essie Caffall. The family moved to Hobbs in 1931 and resided at the Phillips Camp. Irene graduated from Hobbs High School in 1940. Irene worked at the old Air base as a seamstress. She was a past member of Gold Star Wives of America and The Women's Auxiliary (Pink Ladies).
Irene married Lt. Jerry Wilcox in November 1944. They were stationed in Stuttgart, German in 1947 and 1948. She married N. R. Smith in 1952. Having four children Jeff Smith, Malia Mackay (Frank), Christy Riley. Irene worked at the old George's Lounge and Restaurant for 20 years.
Irene has seven grandchildren Jessie, Sara, Evin, Brittany, Charlee, Katy and Sage, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by Jerry Wilcox and her daughter Annaileen, four sisters; Minnie, Lorene, Aileen and Joann.
She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Irene loved to read mysteries, work crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She loved to garden.
