Imogene Geraldine (Fredenburg) Nelson, 92, died peacefully, surrounded by members of her family on Wed., Jan. 13 in Hobbs, NM.
Visitation will be 1 - 5 p.m. on Sun., Jan 17 at the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home in Hobbs. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 18 at Chapel of Hope, with Pastor John Ayers officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Hobbs.
Imogene was born April 19, 1923 in Detroit, Texas to Ethel and Benjamin Fredenburg. She graduated from high school in Texas and married Melvin James Dickerson in 1942. They had four children and lived in various cities across the southwest while Melvin was employed in the oil and gas industry. In 1955 they moved to Lovington, NM. They were later divorced and Imogene moved to Colorado. On Nov. 23, 1975, she married Edward Nelson of Sedgwick, Co., and they made their home there for a short time before moving to Hobbs, where they owned and operated two motels. She was a member of the Church of Hobbs and a life-time member the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She had a strong work ethic, was known as a talented seamstress, loved dancing and taking care of her family.
Imogene is survived by her husband, Edward; daughters, Judy (Art) Debus of Sterling, CO and Shawna Rosa (Gabino) of Hobbs; son Melvin Dickerson Jr. (Kay) of Kilgore, Texas; step-daughter Karen Fleck of Denver, CO; step-sons, Elwin Nelson and Gary Nelson of Denver, Co; sister, Maxine DeMers of Sterling, CO; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Melvin Dickerson; daughter Sherry Melvina Dickerson; brother Harold Fredenburg; sisters Gayle Gustafason and Joyce Leonard; grandson Justin Daniel Debus and great-grandson Melson Evan Copley.
