Howard Wagnon

July 31, 1950 — July 12, 2012

Wayne Wagnon was born July 31,1950, in Odessa, TX, to Howard and Bertha Wagnon, and died July 12, 2012. He moved with his family to Hobbs, NM, when he was 2 years old. He attended Hobbs Schools, and graduated from Hobbs High in 1968. He then went on to study at Texas Tech University. He married Neena Cocke on February 4,1982, in Hobbs, NM, and they celebrated 30 years together.

He worked in the Alaskan oilfield for 5 years, farmed in Gaines County for 13 years, restored VWs for 3 years, worked at Halliburton for 13 years, and was employed at the Texas Department of Transportation at the time of his death. He was an avid farmer, and loved to dig in dirt. He and Neena have established their home as a National Wildlife Habitat. He has been instrumental in establishing the Hobbs Farmers Market, where he is known as The Chili Man. One of the biggest thrills in his life was taking his children and grandchildren camping, and he and Neena are known as true soakers by park rangers at hot springs throughout the southwest. He was a loving husband and a caring father and grandfather. Everyone who knew Wayne says he was such a great guy, and he was bro, man, dude to a few.

Surviving Wayne are his loving wife, Neena of Hobbs, his son Kevin Duff and wife Tamara, his daughter Lesli Bruce and husband Deron, all of Hobbs, and 3 granddaughters Erin and Madison Bruce and Shayna Duff, all of Hobbs. Preceding him in death were his parents Howard and Bertha Bowie Wagnon and his sister Maggie Lu Johnson.

Visitation with the family will be Sunday, July 15, 2012, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home from 4 to 6 pm. A memorial service will be held July 16, 2012, at St Pauls United Methodist Church at 11 am, with Pastor Calvin Hill officiating. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to be made to The National Wildlife Federation at www.nwf.org or to The Institute of Noetic Sciences at www.noetic.org in memory of Wayne Wagnon.
