Alicia King Enriquez, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 3rd, at 2:10 AM, at her home, surrounded by her daughter, son, and granddaughter. Alicia, who was born on April 19, 1936, in San Diego, Texas, was a beacon of love, faith, and resilience.
Alicia was the cherished daughter of Alonzo D. King and Guillerma G. King. Her early years were marked by hard work and dedication as she contributed to her family’s well-being by working in the fields. She met her future husband, Pedro G. Enriquez, in 1952, and they were married in Plainview, Texas, in 1954. Together, Alicia and Pedro embarked on a journey that took them from Chicago, where they welcomed their first child Pedro K. Enriquez, then moved onto Uvalde, Texas where they had their next children Hilda K. Enriquez and Richard K. Enriquez. Their pursuit of opportunity led them back to Chicago, where they expanded their family with Margarita K. Enriquez and Maria Del Rosario King Enriquez. In 1984, they retired to Hobbs, New Mexico, where Alicia delighted in nurturing her 17 grandchildren and creating a home filled with warmth and love.
A devout Catholic, Alicia’s life was deeply rooted in her faith. She was known for her vibrant spirit, her passion for dancing and singing, and her love for cooking for those she cherished. Her home was always a place of joy, laughter, and good food. Alicia’s fiery spirit and unwavering honesty were hallmarks of her character, and she faced life’s challenges with a courageous heart.
Alicia’s passing followed the of her beloved husband of 69 years, which left her with a broken heart. She is survived by her five children-Pedro K. Enriquez of Magdalena, NM, Hilda K. McConaughy (Jim) of Minooka, Illinois, Richard K. Enriquez (Lisa) of Hobbs, NM, Margarita K. Enriquez, Crest Hill, Illinois, and Maria Del Rosario King Enriquez of Hobbs, NM—as well as her 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, all of whom were the lights of her life.
Prairie Haven Memorial Park will not just be Alicia’s final resting place, but it will also be Pedro’s. Pedro passed away March 1st, 2023, and was cremated. As part of the Enriquez last wishes, they wanted to be buried together. Juntos para siempre. Alicia will be taking Pedro with her as she rests at Prairie Haven. We will not just be saying goodbye to Alicia, but we will also be saying goodbye to Pedro one last time as well. Our final goodbyes to them as the beautiful couple that they were and will be in heaven.
Alicia’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.
