Funeral services for Hermon Virgil Warford, Jr. will be held Thursday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. He was born in San Angelo, Texas in 1932 to Hermon Virgil and Annie Lauren Warford, Sr. He had two sisters, Nancy and Kathy.
His friends called him Hermon and Bud, but in his heart he was always the boy Buddy, who played baseball and roller-skated and got into harmless mischief with sisters, cousins and friends.
As a young man, he served a term in the Navy training aviators and playing piano at the USO. When his term in the Navy was up, he earned two degrees in music from Hardin Simmons University, where he also met and married Janice Dones.
Bud and Janice were married for 53 years this past December 19th. During those years they had three children - Melody, Lyric and Craig - and four grandchildren - Joshua, Michael, Jarrod and Katie.
Bud worked for many years at the Hobbs Post Office, but never gave up his deep love of music. He continued to play the piano and over the years wrote a number of music books that include piano duets and choral arrangements. His most recent composition was When the Roll is Called Up Yonder for the Jubilee Choir, which meets at his home church, Taylor Memorial Baptist. He also taught a men's Bible study class there for 20 years.
His family will miss him dreadfully, but are confident that his faith has brought him to his true home. We know that we will join him there one day, and are deepLy grateful for the lessons of character, faith and love we received from him.
