Harold Ray Sherrill was born on October 28, 1933, in Seagraves, Texas to Rector Ray and Stella Jewell Sherrill. He passed away at the age of 89 on December 8, 2022, with his bride of 64 years holding his hands. He is survived by his loving wife Judith Sherrill; (sister Elsie Criswell); (brothers Alvin and Norman); son Robin (wife Kristie, sons Jeremy and Justin); Janeen Scheetz (husband Lacy, daughters Kyra and Kayli). He was preceded in death by his brother Bobby.
While serving in the US Air Force in Rapid City, South Dakota he met Judy. Swiftly proposing she answered, “yes I will marry you, however, I have a date with someone else tomorrow night”.
Shortly after relocating to Hobbs, he went to work for Phillips Petroleum. He worked for 35 years in the Hobbs area, retiring in 1994. A devout Christian, he helped build Bethel Assembly of God in Hobbs in 1969. He always enjoyed hunting, was an avid reader and loved camping in the New Mexico mountains. Later in life, he developed a passion for the violin. He and his wife spent countless hours playing hymns together, he on the violin she on the organ or piano. Always generous of his time, he would say “you must take care of the widows and those that aren’t able themselves”.
