Guadalupe (Lupe) DeLeon was called to join his maker at the age of 92 on the night of September 5th, 2023, surrounded by family. Guadalupe was born on March 24th, 1931, in Bishop, TX to Luquitas & Rafael DeLeon. Guadalupe is now reunited with his beloved wife Julia DeLeon who he married in 1951 and together they had 6 children. They were married for 56 years before her passing.
Guadalupe worked as a laborer for Frontier Roofing of Lubbock, TX and then transferred with the same company to Hobbs, NM. He later worked for Helms Roofing and started his own roofing company, DeLeon Roofing, in the early 1970’s and stayed in business until his retirement approximately 30 years later. Guadalupe’s work ethics spoke for itself, and he was a great role model to many. Guadalupe was devoted to the Catholic Church where he had served as an usher, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Legion of Mary and enjoyed being a volunteer for the church’s Annual Family Fair. He served as a fourth degree Knight as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Guadalupe’s faith was strong and spending time daily with God by praying the Holy Rosary was important to him. One of our best memories of our dad and grandpa was how much he loved dancing the Waltz with his beloved wife. He always loved to dress up and loved to smell good with his cologne. He loved telling stories of the old days and enjoyed visits from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Guadalupe enjoyed music and he could always be found whistling, tapping, or wiggling his leg whether music was playing or not. He especially enjoyed singing with his brothers. He loved watching Old Westerns and Old Mexican movies. He loved playing games with his family with Toma Todo being his favorite and was always a winner no matter what. He loved working the BINGO at the Knights of Columbus on weekends for many years and enjoyed buying cars to resale.
