Gilbert Murrish, Jr

January 28, 1950 — February 8, 2015

Gilbert Allen (Buck) Murrish, Jr. came into this world on January 28, 1950 in Kearney, NE, and departed this life on February 8, 2015 in Hobbs, NM. Buck was the son of Gilbert Allen (Gil) Murrish, Sr., and Shirley Pool Murrish. Buck was preceded in death by his father Gil Murrish.

Buck was raised the majority of his life in Beaver, OK. After graduating High School Buck moved to Tatum, NM and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1968. He served in the VF14 Fighter Squadron during the Vietnam conflict aboard the USS John F. Kennedy Aircraft Carrier. He was stationed in Norfolk, VA.

Buck worked many years in the oil and gas industry for Land and Marine Rental Company, Homco, B&D Sales and most recently EL Farmer Company. He took pride in his work, but he also enjoyed many activities outside of work including horses, hunting, and fishing.

Buck was a past member of the American Legion Post #26 and the Lea County Sheriff's Posse. He rode with the Lea County Sheriff's Posse in many parades from Lovington to Jal, NM and gave back to the community through the annual Lea County Fair and Rodeo activities.

Buck is survived by his son, Clayton Allen Murrish and step-son Thomas Jeremy Jordan both of Hobbs, NM, his mother Shirley Murrish of Tatum, NM, a sister Jan Murrish Bennett (Emmitt) of Beaver, OK, a brother Mick Murrish (Belinda) of Hobbs, NM and a sister Dianna Murrish Page of Wink, TX. He is also survived by three nephews and two nieces. He was also an adopted Pops and Papa Buck to Samantha, Brooklyn, London, and Lily.
