Gilbert Junie Granger, Jr., age 48, of Hobbs, went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2010, after a lenghthy battle with complications of diabetes at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, TX. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home with Pastor Ruth Gonzales officiating.
Junie entered this life on May 15, 1962, in Denver City, Texas. He was the son of Gilbert S. Granger, Sr. and Ophelia L. Bryan both of Hobbs. Junie was a hard worker and enjoyed a lifetime spent working alongside his father pouring concrete. He loved his family and cherished time spent with his children. He enjoyed fishing, growing tomatoes, and being outdoors. He was naturally inquisitive and could fix anything. Possessing a vast knowledge of history and current events, he would spend hours sharing his knowledge with others. Family and friends remember his beautiful singing voice and his musical talent. He attended New Mexico Junior College, studied architectural design, and received specialized training at GOMACO University in Ida Grove, Iowa. He was member of Zion Full Gospel Church. Junie was charming, possessed a great sense of humor, and found favor with everyone he encountered. He was a talented athlete, excelling at track and field and gymnastics, where he garnered many awards and played on many undefeated teams. He will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Gilbert S. Granger, Sr. and Ophelia L. Bryan of Hobbs a son Erik Granger of Albuquerque, NM, his daughters Mandi Granger of Albuquerque, NM, Jasmine Granger of Hobbs, NM, and Kristiana Granger of Hobbs, NM his siblings, Ruth Gonzales and husband Genaro, Jr., of Hobbs, NM, Stanley Granger of Hobbs, NM, Randy Granger of Las Cruces, NM, Crystal Navarrette of Hobbs, NM, Bernadette Granger of Hobbs, NM, Rebekah Medina and husband, Orlando of Hobbs, NM, Jeremy Granger of Japan, Sara Granger of Hobbs, NM, Veronica Granger of Santa Fe, NM, and Amanda Granger of Lubbock, TX, numerous cherished nieces, nephews and a vast extended family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph Sr. and Ascension Granger and Pablo and Soledad Gonzales, and numerouls aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association. The family would like to thank Dr. Ruben Villa, Dr. David Vermillion, the medical staff at Covenant Medical Center, and FMS Dialysis ServicesHobbs, whose kindness, professionalism and unwaivering dedication to Junie will never be forgotten.
