George Herd

George Herd, 71, of Hobbs, passed from this life Wednesday, July 24, 2013, in Big Spring, TX. He was born July 14, 1942, in Coleman, TX.to George and Mavis Herd. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1960. He Married Peggy Sharp on June 4,1966 in El Paso Tx . Two weeks later George was drafted into the army and sent to Seoul,Korea.He served in the army until 1968.
He spent over 45 years in the oil fields of West Tx,NM,Colorado,Oklahoma and California as a drilling fluids engineer.During this time of his life, he traveled many miles and drilled numerous wells while forming many life long friendships. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents,George and Mavis Herd
George is survivied by his wife of 47 years, Peggy Herd three daughters Trish Herd and fiance J.P. Dodson of Odessa,TxCarrie Spriggs an husband Mark of Melbourne,Australia and Kim Herd of Austin, Tx one brother Larry Herd of Phoenix,Az and two grandchildren, Maggie Jean Spriggs and Brady James Patton Spriggs.
Memorial services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
