George Epperson of Hobbs passed away Wednesday, November 28th at the age of 88. He was born January 5, 1930 to Tom and Lula Epperson in Wapanucka, OK. He graduated high school in 1948 from Bromide, OK. In 1951, he was drafted into the US army and served two years, was transferred to Army Reserve in 1953, then was honorably discharged in 1956. He came to Hobbs shortly after, where he met his loving wife, JoAnn Hirt, of the home. They were married on December 17, 1958 and spent almost 60 years together raising three sons. He was a truck driver with 24-year retirement from Unichem International. He loved to dance, play dominos, watch Texas Rangers baseball and Dallas Cowboys football. He loved to tell jokes and play pranks, especially on his sons. His family was very important to him. He was preceded in death by five brothers, five sisters, and one great grandson. Surviving him are his sons George Epperson Jr. (Tom), wife Mercy, of Ingleside, TX, Wayne Epperson of Lithia Springs, GA, and Carl Epperson of Hobbs, NM, five grandchildren; Cody Epperson of Ozark, MO, Linzy Epperson of Albuquerque, NM, Latasha Epperson of Lithia Springs, GA, Bradley Epperson (Elysa) of Douglasville, GA, Sarah Wiltse (Colby) of Corpus Christi, TX, several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law; Irene King of Hobbs, NM, and Glenda Cooper of Midland, TX.
