George E. Ebert, died May 5, 2021. George was born in Salisbury, Missouri on the 15th of February, 1935. He was born to George Frederick Ebert and Virginia Morey. He is survived by four sons, George Fred (wife Maureen), Jeff (wife Terri), Gerald, Bryn (wife Gwen), one daughter, Mary (husband Terry), 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances Fern, and 2 sisters.
He came to Hobbs in 1972 as the station commander of the Army Recruiting Center. After 3 ½ years he retired with 20 years of service in the Army. George coached Little League Football for 5 years and then umpired Little League Baseball for 5 years. He worked as a carpenter building houses. He became a fireman for a year, but didn’t like being an ambulance driver so became the first General Manager of McDonalds when it came to Hobbs in 1976-77. George learned a lot, but was raising 5 kids and so went to work for the Post Office for 8 years. He retired on disability December 1985 and then drove a yellow dog for 3 years. He then moved up to the big ones! George drove the activity bus for 15 years. He had a great time with the kids – they were great! He retired from B & G Transportation after 18 years. He enjoyed working for two great bosses, Gene and Mike Whitehead. George and his wife, Frankie found Hobbs to be a great place to live and bring up their children.
