alignjustifyGeneva Austin, 87, of Hobbs passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2009, in Hobbs. She was born March 26, 1921, in Henderson, Texas. A graveside service will held at 11 :30 a.m. Friday, February 20, 2009 at Prairie Haven Cemetery.

alignjustifyShe was owner and manager of the Tip Top Barber and Beauty Shop, and was one of the first beauticians in Hobbs to learn the technique of hair weaving.

alignjustifyShe was preceded in death by her parents, Bessie and Johnnie Young; her brother, Johnnie Morris Young; her sister Margene Brooks and significant other Dennis Latimore; and several nieces and nephews. She is survived by her sister, Opal Marshall; her nephews, Alfred Young Wanda, Thera Marshall Cathy, Tommy Brooks Brenda, all of Hobbs, New Mexico, Jimmy Marshall of Ruidoso, New Mexico, Jessie Brooks of San Diego, California, Bryant Marshall of Big Spring, Texas; and nieces Bobbie Thomas Frank of Dallas, Texas, Dana Petties of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Janice Brooks and Donna Vaughn Richard, all of Hobbs, New Mexico.
