Arvel Eugene “Gene” Stewart of Lovington, New Mexico was born on November 8, 1952 in Snyder, Texas to James A. and Oleta Stewart. Gene passed away February 24, 2023 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
When Gene was a young child his family moved to Hobbs. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1971, after proudly helping the Hobbs Eagles football team win a state championship in 1970. After graduating from NMJC, Gene followed in his Dad’s footsteps and became an oilfield machinist. He worked as a machinist until he retired in 2017.
Gene met the love of his life, Brenda Fry in 1971. They married August 31, 1974. In 1979 they welcomed their beautiful daughter, Kelly, into their lives.
Gene shared his passion for Harley-Davidson motorcycles, traveling, and music with his family and many beloved friends. He never met a stranger. He always had a smile, he always shared a laugh, and he always spread love wherever he went.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, James and Oleta Stewart. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Brenda, daughter Kelly Rich and her husband Charley, grandchildren Harley Rich, Jacklynne Crowley, Tianna Stewart, and Jacob Rich, three great-grandchildren, siblings Wanda Kenyon and J.C. Stewart, as well as two nieces.
