Gary Lee Shepard was born in Loving, Texas on March 31, 1936. He married Betty Jo Parton on June 9, 1954. Gary passed away on April 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Lorayne Shepard, and younger brother Johnny Shepard.
Gary and Betty transferred to Hobbs in 1964. They began L.A.C.T. Service Company in 1969. They and their family have continued to serve the oilfield community. Gary and Betty were also instrumental in building a softball field here in Hobbs in 1973, named NicholsShepard Softball Field, along with the help of many volunteers in Hobbs. Throughout his life Gary was an active member in the community of Hobbs. He served as a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Eagles Lodge, and as a member of the Encounters Sunday School Class at First United Methodist Church.
Gary enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cards and games, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed the game of football, and was a devoted Dallas Cowboy fan.
Gary is survived by his wife, Betty Shepard, of Hobbs his sister and her husband, Darlene and Jimmy Swetnam and his younger sister and her husband, Janie and James Creed and sisterinlaw, Gayle Shepard his children, Douglas Shepard of Seminole, Texas Kris and Bob Hamilton, and Becky and Scott Lynskey, all of Hobbs grandchildren, Jeremiah and Angela Shepard, Shyla and Chris Sinclair, Darian Shepard, Regan Shepard, Lori and Doug Roberson, Robi and Cori Hamilton, Kristina Hamilton, Morgan Lynskey, and Logan Lynskey. Greatgrandchildren are Bryson and Brynlee Shepard Kolten, Ryan and Jarett Sinclair Kmron and Josef Roberson Stephanie and Israel Pinon Robert and Britny Martinez Dominque Rubio and Brooklyn Seymour. Surviving greatgreat grandchildren are Elijah, Emma, and Kristen Pinon and Arianna Martinez.
Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday, April 25, 2014, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Chapel of Hope, led by Mr. Ronnie Richard. Following services, a reception will be held in Garys honor at Grace Baptist Church, 2500 N. Jefferson St., Hobbs, New Mexico.
