Freddie Fred Joe Gray, 84, died May 13 at his home. He was born February 10, 1029, in Lubbock, TX, to H. H. Gray and Ivy Rae Gilbreath Gray.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Jefferson Street Church of Christ with Minister Clay Martin officiating. Mr. Gray will be in state 12 6 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. noon Tuesday at Chapel of Hope. Services are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Fred moved to Hobbs in 1932 with his paternal grandparents, Walter and Alice Gray, from Lubbock. Fred married Charlene Lila Davis on December 2, 1947, in Amarillo, TX. They have lived in Hobbs all 63 years.
Fred was a graduate of Hobbs High School in 1947. He worked in construction, working on many of the houses and buildings in the city, El Paso Natural Gas plants 3 and 4 and Cunningham Power Plant west of town. In 1962 he began working for K S Electric as a warehouseman, retiring in 1989.
Fred was a member of Jefferson Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene, of 63 years sons, Wilburn R. Will Gray and wife Anita of Roswell, Joe H. Gray and wife Debbie of Hobbs grandchildren, Lisa, Chris, Wesley, Angela, Ashley, Heath, Lance, Michael and Cassandra greatgrandchildren, Kaylie, Austin, Cristian, Logan, Arron, Ethan and Marysa cousins, Rodger Gray, Patricia Jackson, Karen Garner, Louis Smith, Larry Smith and Gary Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, grandparents, three aunts and two uncles.
Interment will be at Prairie Haven Cemetery.
