Fred Smith

A memorial service for Fred L. Smith will be held Frida, March 30, 2012, 10:00 am at the Chapel of Hope Funeral Home , 3321
N. Dal Paso, Hobbs, NM.

Fred L. was born April 10, 1922, in Texico, NM, oldest son of Ruby Lang Smith and Rome Smith and entered into the gates of Heaven on Sunday, March 25, 2012.

Fred L. married Frances Monica Hardesty on June 12, 1944, in Hereford, TX, while serving in the Coast Guard. They lived in Amarillo, TX, and Guymon, OK, before moving to Hobbs, NM, in 1957. He retired from SPS Cunningham Power Plant. He enjoyed his businesses, Apache Taxidermy and Apache Archery. He was also an accomplished painter. His interests included hunting, fishing, conservation and trips to Alaska and Africa.

Fred L., a dedicated, loving husband, father and grandfather always put family first and was highly respected throughout the community. He believed that a mans handshake was his word. He will be truly missed by all.

He is survived by his wife Frances, three sons, Kenneth Saura of FL, Jerry Debbie of AZ, Pat Charlotte of OK, two daughters Monica Phil Scott of TX, and Kathy DeLynn Jones of Hobbs. He was blessed with having 15 grandchildren and 24 greatgrandchildren.

He is also survived by three brothers, Eugene, David and Jimmy, and two sisters, Janie McPherson and Mona Grant. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son Charles, four brothers, Edison, Billy, Lloyd and Orville Don, and one sister, Eula Mae Smitty.
