Funeral services for Fred N. Higgins of Hobbs, N.M., will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 22, 2008, at Chapel of' Hope Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Lord officishy;ating. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is 8 a.m.- 6 p.m. Thursshy;day and 8 a.m. until service time Friday.
Mr. Higgins, 83, died Feb. 18, 2008, at Lea Regional Medical Center. He married Jeneva Higgins on June 8, 1947, in Hereford, Texas.
Fred served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a contractor and carshy;penter before being employed as the building inspector for the City of Hobbs. He retired after 19 years of service. Fred enjoyed woodworking. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jeneva Higgins of the home; two sons, Carl Gary Higgins of Stillwater, Okla., and Dennis Higgins of Bennett, Neb.; a daughter, Vickie Higgins of Duncanville, Texas; three sisshy;ters, Luella Thomas of Hereford, Texas, Mattie Thomas of Vega, Texas, and Alberta Cantrell of Bensing, Ariz.; two brothers, Ted Higgins, of Hereford, Texas, and Robert Higgins of Lubbock, Texas; six grandchildren and four greatshy;grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Catherine Higgins; two brothshy;ers, Charles and John Higgins; and a sister, Billie Harris.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers; memorials be made to Star Hospice, 1601 N. Turner, Suite 520, Hobbs, NM 88240.
