A memorial service for Fred T. Brown, 85, of Hobbs will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. Dr. Dean Mathis will officiate. Cremation will take place.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Fred died February 7, 2011, at Desert Gardens. He was born October 27, 1925, in Gypsy, Oklahoma. He was married to LaVonne Brown for 63 years.
Fred served in the US Navy during WWII in the preflight program. He had a degree from Oklahoma State University in animal husbandry. He began his working life on a ranch and then worked for BakerHughes Corp. over 30 years as a sales representative. His hobbies were woodworking and scouting. Fred was an Eagle Scout. He loved education and continued to take classes at NMJC for many years. Fred enjoyed many things in life, but family was most important to him.
He was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, LaVonne, of Hobbs two sons, Terry O. Brown and wife Marcia of Albuquerque and Dr. Steven F. Brown and wife Lynn of Monument, Colorado four grandchildren, Lt. Jordan Brown of Oceana Naval Air Station in Virginia Beach, VA, Amanda Kervman of Scotland, Stephanie Brown Hogger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Christopher C. Brown of Israel and one greatgrandson, Tyler Hoffer of Colorado Springs, CO.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Cal Farleys Boys Ranch and Girls Town, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 791740001.
