Frank Norman Houston III was born to Frank Norman Houston and Margaret Etta Maxey Houston on January 15, 1931 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. He passed from this life on July 8, 2014 in Hobbs, New Mexico.
Frank attended school in Louisiana and graduated from Baton Rouge High in 1947. He attended Louisiana State University for 3 years before the Korean War began. After the war ended, he resumed his education at the University of North Texas where he obtained a Bachelors and Masters Degree. He graduated with High Honors and belonged to Alpha Chi National Honor Society. He later attended Eastern New Mexico University where he obtained an Education Specialist degree in 1972, and became a life member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society.
He was a Korean War veteran and a Presbyterian.
While stationed at Walters A.F.B. in Mineral Wells, Texas he met Barbara Janet Parks. They were married on August 25, 1956 at First Methodist Church in Millsap, Texas. They moved to Hobbs in 1957. Two children were born to this union, Leslie Houston Hill of Hobbs, and John Houston of Millsap, Texas.
Frank began teaching at Heizer Junior High School in August 1957. He taught History and Science before becoming a counselor for all three Hobbs junior highs. During his career with the Hobbs Schools, he worked as a junior high counselor, Assistant Principal at both Heizer and Houston Junior Highs, Principal at Heizer, and finally Principal at Houston Junior High until his retired in May 1990. After retirement Frank and Barbara traveled extensively, with primary focus on Europe and Great Britain.
He is survived by his daughter Leslie Hill and husband Donnie, of Hobbs, and his son John Houston of Millsap, Texas. He is also survived by his sister Maxey Schultz and husband F.J. of New Orleans, Louisiana, his sister Helen Bourgeois of Thibodaux, Louisiana, his niece Tara Carvin and husband Glenn and greatnephew Ryan of Apharetta, Georgia, and nephew Samuel Bourgeois of New Orleans. He is survived by his grandchildren, Mark Hill of Lubbock, Texas, Lauren Hill, Hannah Hill, Donnie Hill, Jr, Sherry Hill Goodwin and husband Brian, and Amy Hill, all of Hobbs, and Richard Hill and wife Brooke of Midland, Texas. He is also survived by eight greatgrandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, brotherinlaw G.B. Parks, and niece Rachel Bourgeois.
Visitation will be 16 p.m. Sunday July 13, 2014 at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home, with family greeting friends from 24 p.m. Visitation will continue from 8 a.m. to Noon, Monday July 14, 2014. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church, 920 N. Turner St, Hobbs, New Mexico. Interment will be held 11 a.m. CDT Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Millsap Cemetery, Millsap, Texas.
