Frances Murphy

Funeral services for Frances. C. Pat Murphy of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 30, 2009, at Northside Baptist Church with Pastor Brad Reimers and Dr. Richard Cheatham officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at South Park Cemetery in Roswell, New Mexico.

Visitation is 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mrs. Murphy, 77, died October 26, 2009, at her home in Hobbs. She was born January 4, 1932, in Dallas, Texas. She married James Murphy in June, 1970, in Roswell.

Pat was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She was a member of the NCO Wives Club in Germany and the Guardian Wives Club in Hobbs. She was actively involved in GirlBoy Scouts when her children were young. For over 30 years she worked in the kitchen at Northside Baptist Church where she also taught Sunday school, served in VBS and led the 50 Senior Adults. Pat was known for her homemade rolls and she catered for many occasions. She also enjoyed working as a product demonstrator over the last few years. Pat loved to camp and travel, but the greatest joy in her life was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was an active member of Northside Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Mike Athey and wife Teri of Odessa, Texas; Bobby Athey and wife Tammy of Foster, Oklahoma, Kenny Athey and wife April of Bayfield, Colorado, and Bill Murphy and wife Vicky of Alvin, Texas; her daughters, Juan Nell Cheatham and husband Richard of Wimberley, Texas, and Judy Gray of Hobbs; a daughter-in-law, Karen Murphy of Hobbs; two brothers; eight sisters; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Pat was preceded in death by her first husband, J. W. Athey in 1965; her second husband, James Albert Murphy on March 27, 2009; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Star Hospice or the Northside Baptist Church building fund.
