Funeral Mass for Frances Pacheco Alvarez, 90, of Hobbs, will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Father Ruben Romero will officiate. Burial will follow services at Prairie Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rosary will at at 6 p.m. Monday, February 21, at Chapel of Hope.
Visitation will be 8 a.m. 8 p.m. Monday and 8 9 a.m. Tuesday.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Frances died February 18, 2011, in Lubbock. She was born September 17, 1920, in Banning, California. She married Euliogio Alvarez, who preceded her in death in 1961.
Frances moved to Hobbs in 1950. She taught English as a second langauage at Edison Elementary for 17 years. She received many awards during her life. Among them were
Adult Basic Education Teacher of the Year, Martin Luther King Award, and the Hispanic of the Year. Frances was an active member of the Crusilliastas, Legion of Mary, Alter Society, Guadalupanas, Chamber of Commerce and the Ministerial Alliance. She was politically active, worked in her church and collected rosaries. Frances had lived in Lubbock with her daughter for the last year and a half. She was such a godly woman that friends would ask to receive blessings from her. She will be greatly missed.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Delia Garcia and husband, Fred, of Lubbock, Estela Carrillo of Gallup, Alicia Rendon and husband, Nat of Hobbs and Celia Rodriquez of Hobbs eight grandsons, two granddaughters and 16 greatgrandchildren.
Frances was preceded in death by her two husbands, parents, two sons, four brothers and one sister.
