Elmer Floyd Evans, 73, died Sunday, June 10 at his home in Hobbs, New Mexico, with his family by his side.
Everyone knew him by Floyd (AKA) Pink Floyd. He was born, August 17, 1944, in Brownfield, Texas to James and Lottie Evans. He grew up in Brownfield, Texas and Hobbs, New Mexico. He graduated Hobbs High School in May 1963 and then married his high school sweetheart Mary Evans, July 23, 1963. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1966 -October 1968, serving in the Army 1st Cavalry Division. He served in the Vietnam War February 1968-October 1968, where he was honorably discharged in October 15, 1968. He lived with his wife in Amarillo, Texas from 1968-1972. While living there, he worked alongside his brother Leroy Evans building churches across West Texas and parts of Oklahoma. He moved his family back to Hobbs, New Mexico in 1972, where he would later work in the oil field from 1974-2008. Floyd enjoyed a good joke, working on cars, and bird hunting.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Lottie Evans, sister Jean Henderson, brothers Dean Evans, Kenneth Evans, Leroy Evans, Lloyd Evans and sister-in-law Sue Dodd.
He survived by his wife Mary Evans, son Darrell Evans, daughter Gay Lynn and her husband Matthew Shaffer, two grandchildren Brenden and Hayden Shaffer, and many cousins, nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
