alignjustifyA funeral Mass for Felipe U. Valdez of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Van Horn, Texas. Burial will follow in Van Horn Cemetery in Van Horn, Texas.

alignjustifyVisitation is 1-5 p.m. Saturday, February 28, at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home. The family will be in attendance from 2-4 p.m.

alignjustifyArrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

alignjustifyMr. Valdez, 72, died Thursday, February 26, 2009, at Lea Regional Medical Center in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was born May 1, 1936, in Pilares, Chihuahua, Mexico. He married Martha Carrillo Valdez.

Felipe Urias Valdez went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 26, 2009. He was a lifetime resident of Van Horn, Texas, until November 2006 when he and Martha moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. He was very devoted to his family. His greatest joy in life was being with his family.

alignjustifyHe was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Van Horn, Texas.

alignjustifySurvivors include his wife, Martha of Hobbs, New Mexico; two sons, Merced Valdez and wife Lucy of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Lolo Urias and wife Rosa of Van Horn, Texas; seven grandchildren, Benita Lulu Siaosi and husband Kesomi of Hobbs, New Mexico, Isaac Valdez and wife Lynn of Sheridan, Wyoming., Phillip Valdez of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Sarah Valdez of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Rocio, Lori and Michael, all of Van Horn, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Siali and Samisoni Siaosi of Hobbs, New Mexico, and Ethan and Elicia Valdez of Sheridan, Wyoming; four brothers, Joe Valdez of San Antonio, Texas, Lorenzo Valdez of Birmingham, Alabama, Jesus Valdez of Houston, Texas, and Lupe Valdez of Van Horn, Texas; a sister, Vicky Gonzales of Van Horn, Texas; and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

alignjustify Felipe was preceded in death by his parents, Jose R. and Teodora U. Valdez, and a sister, Soledad U. Melendez.

alignjustifyMemorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
