Funeral services for Eugene Gene Garlitz are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Jefferson Street Church of Christ with Minister Clay Martin officiatshy;ing. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation is 8 a.m.-6 p.m. today, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday and 8-8:30 a.m. Saturday at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Garlitz, 94, died October 21, 2008, at Good Samaritan Village in Hobbs, New Mexico. He was born November 14, 1913, in Moran, Texas. He married Adell Garlitz on April 25, 1942, in Albany, Texas.
Eugene moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, on August 6, 1946. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He worked in the oil patch for 17 years as a roughneck and driller, then was the owner of the Army Store for 42 years. His hobbies were fishing and hunting. Eugene loved football and baseball, especially the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
He was a very active member of Jefferson Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include four sisters, Willie Mae Parsons of Abilene, Texas, Louise Shelton of Albany, Texas, Dorothy Anderson of Ranger, Texas, and Frances Howe and husshy;band Ray of Abilene, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Adell, in 2005; three brothers, Clarence, Otto and Homer Garlitz; and two sisters, Viola and Hazel Garlitz.
