alignjustifyEthel Jean Williams-Hamilton was born January 2, 1939, to John Henry and Emma Williams in Quitaque, Texas. The family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico, when she was four years old. Jean, as she was lovingly called, attended Booker T. Washington School. She went on to obtain her degree in psychology from Compton Community College.
alignjustifyWhile living in Hobbs, she was a member of St. John Baptist Church, where she played the piano for one of the best gospel choirs in Hobbs. Jean moved to Albuquerque, N.M., and from there to Compton, California, where she owned her own business. She also resided in Cerritos, California, and in Los Angeles, California, until her passing on March 26, 2009.
alignjustifyJean was well known in her community and touched the lives and hearts of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
alignjustifyJean is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, T.L. Williams and Zeak L. Williams; and a son, Michael Big Mike Williams.
alignjustifyLeft to cherish her loving memories is one brother, Arnett Williams of Hobbs; two sisters, Vera Williams of Garland, Texas, and Exer Jackson of Cypress, California; five daughters, Emma Coleman and Freda Ross of Los Angeles, California, Wanda Bell, Pearl Bell and Pamela Williams of Hobbs; two sons, Ricky Jackson of Whiteface, Texas, and Willie Ross of Colorado Springs, Colorado; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two special friends that the family wishes to acknowledge with much love and appreciation for always being there, Lula Pat Gant of Long Beach, California, and Paul Bryant of Los Angeles, California; and a host of other relatives and friends.
alignjustifyFuneral services will be held Monday, April 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. John Baptist Church with Rev. B.J. Choice officiating. Interment will be at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.
