A memorial service for Elton Jody Taylor of Hobbs, N.M., will be held 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2008, at Taylor Street Church of Christ with ministers Steve Eckman, Mike Keshy;nnedy and Wayne Horshy;ton officiatshy;ing.
Visitation is 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Thursday with the family in attendance from 5-7 p.m at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.
Mr. Taylor, 81, died Tuesday, July 22, 2008, at his home in Hobbs, N.M. He was born January 2, 1927, in Lubbock, Texas. He married LaJuanah Ince on July 14, 1945, in Gulfport, Miss.
He was an active member of Taylor Street Church of Christ.
Mr. Taylor graduated from Lubbock High School in 1944 and enrolled at Texas Tech before joining the United States Navy during World War II. He and LaJuanah moved to Hobbs from Lubbock on January 1, 1957. He owned InceTaylor Oil Company until 1980. He was a partner in Tomco Construction for many years. After that, his interests were directed toward oil and real estate investments. He was a partner in Taylor and Taylor, a real estate investment company. He was president of the Boy's Club of America and a member of the Rotary Club. He served on the City of Hobbs Park Board and helped organshy;ize the Children's Home in Hobbs. He was very active in Taylor Street Church of Christ, serving as a deacon and teachshy;ing Bible classes. Jody was a successful businessman and enjoyed giving back to his comshy;munity and family. Jody enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife and family as well as fishing and hunting. He had an extraordinary outlook on life with a witty sense of humor. He never met a stranger and was adored by many. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will be missed immensely.
Survivors include his wife LaJuanah Taylor of the home: two sons, Rusty Taylor and wife Judy of Hobbs, N.M., and Rodney Taylor of Hobbs, N.M.; a daughter, Ginger Taylor of Kerrville, Texas; his grandsons, Steve Sims and wife Kimberly of Hobbs, N.M., and Ross and Russell Taylor of Hobbs, N.M.; his granddaughters, Kim Bell and husband Bryan of Keller,Texas, Juli Smith of Fort Worth, Texas, and Loren Hamrick and husband, Stephen of Keller, Texas; his great-grandchildren, Avery and Drew Bell of Keller, Texas, Hunter and Harrison Sims of Hobbs, N.M., and Olivia Hamrick of Keller Texas.
Jody was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Lottie Taylor; twin sons, Ronald and Raymond Taylor; a brother, Q.B. Taylor; and a sister, Gladys Taylor.
