Elmer Stroud

February 6, 1923 — October 28, 2010

Bo left this world October 28, 2010, to join the love of his life in Glory. Helen and Bo were married January 14, 1943, in Portales, New Mexico. To this union were born two children, Belva and Billy.

A funeral service for Elmer Ray Bo Stroud, 87, of Hobbs will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Chapel of Hope with pastors Dale Shook and Dean Mathis officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, and 8 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at Chapel of Hope.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mr. Stroud died at his home in Hobbs on October 28, 2010. He was born February 6, 1923, in Wayne, Oklahoma. He married Helen Singleton Stroud on January 14, 1943, in Portales, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on October 17, 2009.

Bo coached baseball and softball for many years. Kids throughout the area benefited from his love of kids and the sports they played. Always, always, do your best, he would tell them. He loved the outdoors. Loved to fish and hunt. He was a member of the NM Roadrunner Antique Car Club. He took great pains to restore his antique cars to their original beauty. He loved sitting, telling his grandchildren and his greatgrandchildren his stories. While watching those greats play, he would always say, Im the luckiest man in the world. We were the truly lucky ones, for he was in our lives.

He was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Belva Martin and husband Don of Hobbs grandson, Jerry Martin and wife Rene of Hobbs granddaughter, Kristi Mason and husband Jarrad of Hobbs and four greatgrandchildren, Chelsey and Bailey Martin , Lexi and Rylan Mason, all of Hobbs.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Stroud, on August 11, 2009, and grandson Jonathan Stroud on July 30, 2009.
