Edwin "Lee" Mitchell, Jr.

Edwin “Lee” Mitchell, Jr., 40, passed on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Lee was born in Roswell, NM on May 26, 1984 to Eddie and Kerrie Mitchell. He graduated from high school in 2003 from Northland Christian in Houston, TX. He continued his education at Harding University and University of the Southwest earning a Bachelor’s degree in Education and a Master’s degree in Educational Administration. Lee met the love of his life, Melissa Ferguson, at Harding and they were married on December 20, 2008. Lee began his career as an educator in 2008, teaching physical education at Will Rogers Elementary in Hobbs, NM. In 2012, he began teaching and coaching boys and girls basketball and track at Heizer Middle school, also in Hobbs. In 2021, Lee’s career took him to Mettie Jordan Elementary school in Eunice, NM where he continued teaching physical education and coaching boys basketball and track.

Above all things, Lee lived his life to glorify God. With a Christ like example he taught, coached, encouraged, and loved his students, friends, and family. Lee and Melissa have two daughters, Norah Rose and Lyla Grace. He loved all sports, especially baseball, track, and disc golf. Lee will be greatly missed by his family and friends but we all know he is with his Savior and we will be together again.

Lee is proceeded in death by three of his grandparents and one aunt. Lee is survived by his wife and daughters; his parents, and his brother, Cody Mitchell.

Lee was a passionate sports fan, so please feel free to honor him by wearing your favorite sports jersey or shirt. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Eunice Youth Sports League. Checks can be sent to Mettie Jordan Elementary in Eunice, NM.
