Funeral services for Edwin Johnston of Hobbs, New Mexico, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church with Mr. Ray Smith assisted by Pastor Dale Shook officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Haven Memorial Park.

Visitation is 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Tuesday and 8 - 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The family will greet friends 4 - 6 p.m. Tuesday at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel of Hope Funeral Home.

Mr. Johnson, 85, died, October 31, 2009, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. He was born February 20, 1924, in Oden, Arkansas. He married Edith Pendergist Johnson on August 8, 1942, in Dumas, Askansas.

Edwin had served as a deacon at Castle Avenue Baptist Church. He also taught Sunday school. Edwin enjoyed gardening, woodworking and especially fishing. He was a member of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Edith Johnson of Hobbs; a daughter, Angi Cure of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, Jethro and Emma Johnston; and two brothers.
