Edmundo Vela

Our beloved father Edmundo Vela (Eddie) passed away peacefully surrounded by family in his home on June 4th, 2023. He was born in Yorktown. TX on November 19, 1931, and was one of nineteen children to Romualdo and Emelia Vela.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Elena of 44 years and five children, Cindi Stephenson, Charlie Ortega and wife Bernadette, Corina Reza and her husband Mike Reza, Lydia Castillo, and her husband Librado, and Terry Vela and wife Alicia: eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He is survived by his sister Angie Cabrerra and several nieces and nephews.

A long-time resident of Hobbs, New Mexico, he retired from the City of Hobbs where he received several recognitions of hard work.

Eddie loved reading about historical facts and trivia. He enjoyed speaking about it with people, with anyone who would listen. He loved carpentry and always had a hammer in hand fixing things or improving his home.

After retirement, Eddie became an avid gardener who loved his fruit trees and manicuring his lawn. Eddie was most happy when surrounded by family, telling jokes, laughing, and reminiscing of days gone by.
