Dorris J. "Dee" Selby Dunn, 80, was born August 31, 1936 in Reilly Springs, TX to Maurice and Vaneda Bailey. She passed away in Lubbock, TX on March 1, 2017.
To all her grandchildren she was known as Granny Dee. Among family and friends she was known as Dee. She was a great mom and grandmother, as well as a tireless volunteer at places all over Hobbs and Midland when she lived in Midland. She touched everyone's life she came in contact with and no one ever said a bad word about her.
Dorris busied herself with work, whether taking care of her close family or outsiders and that could be considered her only hobby. She loved her family so much especially her grandchildren. She wrote letters or mailed cards on a weekly basis and would usually enclose a five or ten-dollar bill to help the kids get by. She volunteered at Isaiah's Soup Kitchen for over eleven years and could be seen there cooking, serving or cleaning tirelessly. She was known there as an Angel Incarnate. At church she would always volunteer to keep the children or the small babies. That was her strength, taking care of the young ones. Dorris held great love and pride for all her children and grandchildren and encouraged them to pursue their dreams and ambitions with all they have. Granny Dee did, with all she had and she was an inspiration to all that knew her. With Granny Dee's passing from this life, we remind others that her life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss her every day, especially that big loving smile, she will remain in our hearts.
She is survived by her daughter, Vaneda Kathryn Williams (Walter) of Hobbs; sons, Christopher Maurice Morphew (Pam) of Midland, TX, James (Shorty) Selby of Hobbs and Charles Y. Selby; grandson, Shane Huffman (Allison) of Midland, TX, granddaughter, Angela Selby of Littlerock, AR, grandsons, Jason Selby (Camille) of Kermit, TX, and Blake Morphew (Morgan) of Midland, TX; granddaughters, Rebecca Henderson (Brian) of Littlerock, AR, Emilie Colwell (Nathan) of Harper, TX, Katelyn Morphew and Amanda Morphew of Austin, TX; and brother-in-law Glenn Scott of Lovington, NM; 6 great-grandchildren and two on the way and 1 great-great-grandchild.
