Dorothy Dot Meador passed away from this life on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at Landsun Nursing Home in Carlsbad, NM at the age of 96. brbrVisitation will be held at Chapel of Hope Funeral Home from 10am 5pm, Tuesday, August 26, 2014. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at the Woodbine Cemetery in Artesia, NM. With Gary Standard of Carlsbad officiating.brbr Dorothy was a resident of the Good Samaritan Village, and Heartland Healthcare in Hobbs, NM, for 10 years before recently returning to her hometown of Carlsbad. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carlsbad, NM.brDorothy was born on December 14, 1917 in Spur, Texas, to Emma and Robert Thomas. She grew up on a dry land farm during the depression. She graduated from Mountainair High School in Mountainair, NM in 1936. She married James Wesley Meador o November 19, 1938 in Estancia, NM. Following their marriage, they moved to California where Dorothy supported the war effort while working as a Rosy the Riveter. She was a member of the Greatest Generation, which helped build this great nation through hard work and love of country. Upon returning from California, she and JW settled in and around the Pecos Valley. They lived in Carlsbad and Loco Hills, where she spent her time raising and caring for her four children. In addition to being a homemaker, she assisted in the operation and management of her husbands contracting and ranching businesses. During Dorothys lifetime, her love and hobby of sewing and quilting brought her much pleasure. She was the artist of numerous handmade quilts and stitched man miles o her treadle sewing machine. Her love for sewing inspired her to own and operate Dots Fabrics in Carlsbad from 1966 to 1972. Upon retiring from the fabric store, she continued assisting her husband on their ranch west of Carlsbad.brbrSurvivors include her three daughters, Sharon Musslewhite and husband Charley of Dubuque, IA; Sandra Hegwer and husband Ernie of Lubbock, TX; Jonell Vlosich and husband Mike of Carlsbad, NM; daughter-in-law Linda Meador of Hobbs, NM; 13 grandchidren, 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.brbrDorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.W. Meador ; son, Dennis Meador; grandson, John Vlosich; two brothers, Delmar and Lowell Thomas; and sister, Jewell Gibson.brbrPallbearers will be grandsons, Joe and James Vlosich, Tom Hegwer, and Christopher Littlefield along with nephews, Bill and Tommy Wier.brbrIn memory of Dorothy, Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimerss Association, 9500 Montgomery Blvd. Suite 121, Albuquerque, NM 87111.br
