Doris Edwards

March 31, 1930 — June 8, 2016

Doris Jean (Phillips) Edwards, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, was born in Rule, Texas on March 31, 1930 to Claude Otho and Winnie Mae Phillips. Doris was called to be with her Lord and Savior on June 8, 2016.

Doris Edwards graduated from Odessa High School and worked as secretary to the principal of Odessa High School and the president of Odessa College. She married Deward Darwin Edwards on June 5, 1947, and continued their love affair until Dewey died in 1998. Doris and Dewey had two sons, Dwight Phillip and David Ashlee.

After getting married at 17 and being married for 51 years, Doris began to travel. Her adventures included multiple trips to Europe and even a trip to Mainland China. Doris enjoyed sharing those trips with special friends - even celebrating with her granddaughters, their 16th birthday in Rome, Italy.

Throughout all of her adult life, Doris Edwards considered Hobbs her home. After following the oilfield circuit, from Hobbs to Andrews, Midland, and finally to Houston, Doris and Dewey returned to Hobbs where they continued their Edwards Income Tax Service on South Dal Paso. It is here, in Hobbs, that she found and enjoyed a church family at Taylor Memorial Baptist Church. Doris served as Sunday School Director and helped coordinate the Samaritan's Purse "Operation Christmas Child" shoebox ministry. This ministry, that provides a Christmas shoebox full of personal items and small gifts to children around the world, became her calling. Doris worked tirelessly with the shoebox ministry from 2001 till 2015, even traveling to Denver to see the boxes loaded onto the C-130 plane for international distribution.

Doris is survived by her sons, Dwight Phillip his wife Paula Turney Edwards, and David Ashlee his wife Laura McKinney Edwards; and her nephew Neal Phillips. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Elizabeth and Clare and grandsons Mitch and Blake.
