October 5, 1943 – March 4, 2025

Dixie Lee (Barrick) Marker, 81, passed away on March 4, 2025, in Hobbs, New Mexico after an 8 month battle with pancreatic cancer.

Dixie was born on October 5, 1943, in Watonga, OK becoming the 5th of 6 children born to Madison Ward Barrick and Glennora Pearl (Kimbrel) Barrick. She moved to Hobbs, NM in 1956 and was a 1961 Hobbs High School Graduate.

She married Dick Marker on March 9, 1962, in Hobbs. Together in July 1967 they began their nearly 30 years of business by opening Marker Sheet Metal. Later that same year they welcomed their first child, daughter Rebecca Walker. They were blessed with their second child three years later, daughter Allison Nixon.

Dixie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Grammy, sister, aunt and friend. As Grammy, she thoroughly enjoyed her 5 grandchildren as well as their many friends and attended as many of their school and extracurricular activities as she could. She loved her journey diving into family genealogy and was a long-standing member of Southeastern New Mexico Genealogical Society and served many years as an officer.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dick Marker, sister Odean Weinmeister, brothers Ray Barrick and Dale Barrick.

Dixie is survived by daughter Rebecca Walker of Stephenville, TX, daughter Allison Nixon (Aron) of Hobbs, NM, granddaughter Megan Walker of El Paso, TX, grandson Zane Walker of Springer, OK, grandson Quentin Walker of Stephenville, TX, granddaughter Amber Walker Cole (Jacob) of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA, granddaughter Hailey Nixon of Hobbs, NM, brother Larry Barrick of Bosque Farms, NM, sister Fay Driskell of Enid, OK, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

To honor Dixie’s wishes, the family will be holding a private family burial. A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at a later date.
