Denton “Dean” McDaniel, of Hobbs, New Mexico passed away on October 24, 2019. He was surrounded by family members at his home. Dean was 89 years old. He was born in Oklahoma City, OK on September 13, 1930 to R. D. & Mabel McDaniel. He married Jackie Douglas on February 16, 1959 in Mississippi.
Dean, as he was known by his friends, grew up in East Texas & Illinois. After graduating from Cisco High School, he attended Texas A&M and Cisco Junior College. It was then that he volunteered for the draft and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed in California and flew on B29 bombers as a tail gunner in the Korean War.
He started his career in the oil business in the 1940’s working on drilling rigs. He worked for Baker Oil Tools as a tool pusher and ARCO Oil & Gas as a Drilling Superintendent. After retiring, he worked several years as a Drilling Consultant under his own company.
Dean was an avid fisherman and enjoyed trips to Lake Amistad at Del Rio, Texas. He was a good husband, father and provider. Strength, honesty, perseverance, love of family, hard-working, humorous and giving are just a few words that describe him.
Dean is survived by his wife of 60 years, Jackie McDaniel, of Hobbs. He is also survived by 3 children, Doug McDaniel (Hobbs), Janet Evans & husband Tim Evans (Fort Worth, TX) & Sherry Longoria & husband Lay (Hobbs). He has 2 grandchildren, Alexa Evans & Ajay Longoria.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Evelyn Stevens (Tatum).
The family would like to thank Star Care Home Health, Hospice and the numerous caregivers for their support and care of Dean.
There will be no funeral or formal ceremony. The family suggests any donations in his memory be made to a charity of their choice.
