Funeral services for Dennis B. Meador will be held Monday, May 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Fellowship of Believers Church in Hobbs, New Mexico, with pastors John Ayers and David Matkins officiating. Dennis passed away on MAy 5, 2010, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Dennis was born in Hagerman, New Mexico, on June 14, 1942, to J.W. and Dorothy Meador. He graduated from Artesia High School in 1961. Following graduation he joined the U.S. Army receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1964. While in the Army, he became a highly skilled mechanic.
He began his working career with Rust Tractor in Hobbs, New Mexico. In 1965 Dennis began a long career with El Paso Natural Gas in Jal, NM. He was transferred to McLean, TX in 1981 where he met and married Linda Smith Littlefield on July 24, 1982. While living in McLean he enjoyed his favorite hobbies, Hunting and Trapshooting. He was an active member and sponsor of the 4H Livestock Booster Club, always committed to helping the youth of the community. He was also a supporter of High Plains Jr. Rodeo Assoc. He loved his time in the Texas Panhandle. El Paso Natural Gas transferred Dennis to El Paso, TX in 1991, where he was employed with the gas company until his retirement from them in 1996. He returned to work for Compressco Field Services in Hobbs, NM, and later began working for Double M Energy, where he was employed until his death.
The Hobbs Trap Club was his passion. He worked tirelessly for the continued growth of the organization and the upgrading of the facility. He was a member of the Amateur Trap Association. Dennis competed in trap shoots in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Colorado. He won awards in all the states in which he competed. Dennis was also an avid supporter of the Lea County 4H Shooting Sports.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Linda Meador, children Denice Simmons and husband Rodney of Brady, TX, Roxie McMordie and husband John of McLean, TX, Chris Littlefield and wife, Deeann, of Henrietta, TX and Russell Littlefield and wife Marie of Newcastle, OK. His grandchildren are Molly and Linden Lansford of Brady, TX, Evan McMordie of Lubbock, TX, Miranda and Ian McMordie of McLean, TX, Destiny Littlefied and Faith Jenkins of OK. Dennis is also survived by his mother, Dorothy Meador of Hobbs, NM and sisters, Sharon Musslewhite and husband Charley, Sandra Hegwer and husband Ernie, and Jonell Vlosich and husband Mike.
Burial will take place in Artesia, NM at Woodbine Cenetery at 3:00 p.m.. Visitaion will take place on Sunday, May 9, 2010 from 2:00p.m. 5:00p.m. at Chapel of Hope in Hobbs, NM.
