Darrell W. Marker was born July 22, 1937 in Hobbs, NM to Guy and Easter Marker. Preceding him in death are his parents and his brother Dick Marker.
Darrell graduated from Hobbs High School in 1955 and went to work for an oilfield supply company before going to Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM where he was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. He graduated from ENMU in 1963 and began his career in the banking business in El Paso, TX. He returned to Hobbs, NM and continued his banking career for the next 20 years with New Mexico Bank & Trust and then First Interstate Bank. He was involved in several community organizations throughout the years, Hobbs Chamber of Commerce, Toastmasters and Hobbs Downtown Lions Club where he was Lion of the Year for 1973-74. After retiring from the bank he went to work for James Cecil Auctioneers and then his brother’s business Marker Sheet Metal. After officially retiring he continued to work as needed for James Cecil and Permian Auto Group, where he would pick up and deliver cars.
In 1985 he joined Temple Baptist Church and professed his faith. He knew God, where he was going and passed peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 1, 2023.
He is survived by his daughters: Debbie Owens and husband Trey of Visalia, CA, Dana Ankerholz and husband Chuck of Hobbs, NM, Donna Rutledge and husband Michael of Hobbs, NM, granddaughters: Courtney Lennex and husband Jordan of Visalia, CA, Caitlin Owens of Visalia, CA, Britain Kinney and husband Jackson of Hobbs, NM, and Cambria Rutledge of Hobbs, NM.
