DARIEN W. ARKIE OWEN
Mr. Owen, 79 years old, died June 25, 2011, in Hobbs. He was born March 11, 1932, in Utopia, KS. A graveside service will be held July 7, 2011, Thursday, 9 a.m. at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Officiating will be Pastor Elio Barrios. Military Honors will be performed by Cannon Air Force Base. On October 17, 1950, Arkie joined The Army National Guard in Eureka, Kansas. He moved to Clovis, NM, and was in the NM Army National Guard. He was promoted through grades up to E7 and held duties which included First Sergeant, State Civil Service Administration, Supply Technician and Federal Civil Service. In 1975, he went to Roswell, NM, as Battalion Property Book Officer and was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer. He retired in June 1989. After retirement he stayed with the NM Army National Guard until August 4, 1991, for a total of 41 years and 7 months in the military. Arkie retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Owen, of Hobbs two sons, Arlie Owen and wife, Sharon, of San Antonio, TX, and Leonard Rice and wife, Mary Denise, of Hobbs three daughters, Joey Limon and husband Francisco, Lena Harper and husband David, and Donna Springer and husband Alan, all of Hobbs 11 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren two brothers, Carl V. Owen, Jr. and wife Eloise, and Lloyd D. Owen, both of Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews from Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Buffington Owen his father, Carl V. Owen, Sr. four sisters, Joyce Owen Matlock, Bernice L. Owen Kelley, Georgia Owen and Lennie Owen Elliott and one brother, Royce Owen.
