Obituary for Daniel W. Evans
Daniel Webster Evans, 89, surrendered into the loving arms of the Father May 4, 2015 at Lea Regional Medical Center after a long fight with COPD. Dan was born November 28, 1925 in Monument, NM where his family homesteaded in Pleasant Valley. At 17, he enlisted and served as a Navy corpsman in the Pacific during WWII. When he returned home, he worked for Miller Machine Shop as a millwright and soon opened his own shop, Evans Machine Works, followed by ADCCO Well Service and E&S Maintenance, Inc. When he wasn't running his businesses throughout NM, Texas and Oklahoma, he was raising alfalfa and cattle.
Dan was a member of the VFW 3274 and was post commander for '72-'73. He was finally able to fulfill his dream of traveling back to the Pacific islands to witness their recovery from the war which brought him some peace.
Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Evans Hart of Houston, Texas and Danielle Evans Garcia and husband Oscar of Lago Vista, Texas, step-son Bill Miller and wife Margie of Evergreen, Colorado, five grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, one brother, Robert (Bobby) Evans and wife Louise of Livingston, Texas and one sister, Gladys Abbott of Leander, Texas. Dan was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Evans, on March 9, 2014.
Dan was a hardworking and demanding man who did not suffer fools or laziness easily. The challenges of life simply became something for him to fix. He also had a soft heart and was generous to a fault. There will never be another one like him. He earned his rest and will be sorely missed.
In honor of Dan's wishes, no service will be held as he preferred to be remembered with smiles rather than tears. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project: Veteran's Charity Service.
