Funeral services for Damon Ray Southerland, 48, of Hobbs, will be Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at Chapel of Hope with Pastor Elio Barrios officiating. Burial will follow after services at Prairie Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be 8 a.m. 8 p.m. Monday at Chapel of Hope. Damon passed away May 15, 2013, in Hobbs.
Damon was born in Farmington, NM, on May 17, 1964, to R. L. and Scarlett Ann Southerland. He graduated with honors from Midland High School in 1982 and was a member of the National Honor Society. He married Naomi Cantrell August 17, 1985, and they had 2 children and spent 27 years together.
Damon pursued a career in sales and was a highly respected salesman for over 30 years in the oilfield supply industry beginning in 1983 at Union Supply until 1995 when he went to work for Rye Supply. In 2003 he began working at Jet Specialty, Inc. where he was employed at the time of his death.
In his spare time, Damon loved to spoil his grandsons and perfect his golf swing. He was also an avid racquetball player. Damon was a dedicated OU fan, as anyone who stepped into his home would know. He touched the hearts of many and will be deeply missed by all.
Surviving Damon is his daughter, Tarren Southerland of Odessa, TX his son, Dalton Southerland of Hobbs, NM his mother, Scarlett Irvin, and husband Richard, of Mesa, AZ his father, R. L. Southerland, and wife Wanda, of Kermit, TX a brother, Robert Southerland of Ft. Worth, TX sisters, Kim Williams of Casper, WY, Lori Southerland of Odessa, TX, and Tara Lee, and husband David, of Ft. Worth, TX grandchildren, Kooper Gannon Sharp and Keaton Grae Sharp, both of Odessa, TX and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leon and Mary McMillan and Halam and Hattie Southerland.
