Dale Wiman Brown, 84, died April 15th at Good Life Assisted Living in Hobbs with his daughter at his side. Dale was born on June 25, 1930 in Childress, Texas to Charlie Oliver and Willie (Wiman) Brown.
Dale grew up in west Texas as a son of a cotton farmer. He graduated high school in Wellman, Texas in 1947. After high school he worked at Fair Department Store in Seagraves, Texas. He joined the Air Force in 1950 and served until 1953 during the Korean War. Dale spent one year of his service in Japan. On December 20, 1952, Staff Sgt. Dale Brown married Bonnie Glidewell in Ault, Colorado while stationed in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After serving in the Air Force, he attended Wayland Baptist College in Plainview, Texas. Dale worked for J.C. Penney in management positions for 20 years before opening his small chain of fabric stores. Later he worked as manager of T-Bird Home Center in Roswell for 18 years until the company closed its doors in 1996. Dale and his wife, Bonnie, moved back to Hobbs in 1997 to be closer to family.
Dale was a member of First Baptist Church in Hobbs. He was a church deacon and junior boys Sunday school teacher while residing in Gallup, N.M. Dale enjoyed being with his family, taking long drives in the car and joking around with his family and friends. He especially liked entertaining the children with his version of the song "Ol' Joe Clark". Dale was fond of making the rounds to drink coffee with his numerous friends in the community.
Dale is survived by one son, Jimmie Dale (Beverly) Brown of Wenatchee, Washington; one daughter, Janet Berry (Wendell) of Hobbs; one grandson, Aaron Berry of Hobbs; two granddaughters, Mindi Tercero (Michael) of San Angelo, Texas and Laura Brown of Wenatchee, Washington. He was expecting his first great grandson in July.
Dale is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Bonnie; one brother, CO Brown and two sisters, Zoe Brittian and Jaynette Spears.
