D. O. Coonie: Coyle passed away on Friday, May 14, 2010, at 5 p.m. as he reminded us daily, time to go home, todays work is done at Lea Regional Hospital in Hobbs. He was surrounded by his family and so many treasured friends during his final days on earth. Many people shared their wonderful memories that they had with Coonie. Hunting stories, stories of special family times spent together fond memories of friends. Coonie would have enjoyed all of these stories, because he was quite the storyteller himself. He loved to share his many life experiences with everyone did so at the drop of a hat. He had an incredible recall of things that happeneed during his lifetime. Coonie had a long 81 years life that was filled with joy, laughter, and yes, sadness, bur during all of these, he touched so many lives. He was so well thought of by such a variety of people. We will all have a void in our lives with his passing, but we will have these memories in our hearts and minds that will bring comfort in the days to come.
Coonie was born in Springhill, Louisiana, August 20, 1928. His parents were D. H. and Nanny Coyle. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, his companion and best friend, Kathryn, Tootie Coyle, his daughter Patty and soninlaw Gene Rucker, two grandchildren David Shawn Rucker and Kaci Dawn Oldham, her new husband Matlock two greatgrandchildren, Riley Rucker Jarrett and Kathryn Katy Easter, all of Hobbs. The grandchildren and greatgrandchildren brought Coonie such joy. His eyes would light up whenever they entered the room or talked to him on the phone and told him, I love you Paw, which they always said to him. He loved them with all his heart and even during his last days when it was hard to communicate, that was what he could always tell them, I love you too.One of his favorite places on earth was named Coyles Hilton on the Hill, their vacation home in Ruidoso, New Mexico. This is where his ashes will be scattered at a later date with family and friends together sharing and celebrating his life. These were his wishes to not have a funeral service or memorial service, but take him back to the mountains that he loved so much we might have to drive by Billy the Kid casino or visit the Indians at Casino Apache to pay our respects.
We are reminded of the scripture Matthew 11:28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Coonie is at rest now and sharing his stories with all of his cronies and family memebers, who were waiting in heaven.
