Consuelo Flores Bowen, a respected community member, loving mother, wife and grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on October 6, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 83. Born on January 5, 1941, in Lockhart, Texas, Connie's life was a testament to the strength of character and the joy of family bonds.
Connie's journey began in the warm embrace of Lockhart, Texas, where she grew up with her siblings, Alberto, Enrique, Celia (Mary), Veronica, Pablo, Manuel, Anita, and Gregorio Flores. She then moved to San Antonio where she would be blessed to have her children, daughter Trinidad, and sons, Steven, Alfred and John David Gutierrez. Her early years were filled with the vibrancy of hair culture and the values of family and hard work that would define her life.
After living in San Antonio, Connie ventured to her home in the 1960's to Hobbs, New Mexico. There she met and married the love of her life, George Reginald Bowen, on October 18, 1985. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, raising their unified family together. Connie's role as a mother extended beyond her own children to include her daughters-in-law, Megan, Cindy, and Lillie Gutierrez, and son-in-law, Henry Gonzales. She took immense pride in her family, a joy that was multiplied with the arrival of each of her 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren that followed.
Connie was a woman of many interests and talents. She was a long-time business owner, taking care of several rental houses in Hobbs, New Mexico. Additionally, her passion for hair was evident in the meticulous care she took of each of her clients. She enjoyed spending time with her children, with whom she loved playing bingo, going to casinos, and having long loving conversations. She loved ordering house décor from television and always had her house decorated beautifully. Connie's loving spirit was always friendly and could always put a smile on anyone's face.
Her love for her family was matched by her commitment to making sure she could help in any way possible. Connie was full of strength, always there to help care for her family through illnesses and the challenges of everyday life. Connie's respect for others and strong moral compass made her a beloved figure in her community. She worked at Kmart, Furr's Cafeteria, JCPenney's, Trend Setters Hair Studio, and Brenda's Cool Cuts Hair Salon.
Connie's legacy is one of unwavering love, profound strength, and a commitment to the values of respect, honesty, and integrity. Her life was a tapestry woven with the threads of dedication, joy and the simple pleasures of being surrounded by family.
